PRTR Protocol in Armenia

In 2001, the Republic of Armenia ratified the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention). In 2003, during the fifth “Environment for Europe” Ministerial Conference held in Kiev, the Republic of Armenia signed the Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTR Protocol)
The objective of this document is to enhance public access to information through the establishment of coherent, integrated, nationwide pollutant release and transfer registers (PRTRs) in accordance with the provisions of this Protocol, which could facilitate public participation in environmental decision-making as well as contribute to the prevention and reduction of pollution of the environment.
