Ahead of the UN Universal Periodic Review Process
This year, Armenia will pass the second cycle of the UN Universal Periodic Review. This is one of the most important mechanisms of the UN Human Rights, in which the civil society also can take over a very important role. Unfortunately, the regional NGOs and active civil society does not have much information on this process.
The first Universal Periodic Review was carried out in 2010, which refers to children, women, the environment and other rights.
Aiming to inform the civil society on the UN human rights mechanisms, the UN office in Armenia, Development and Cooperation Center of Vayots Dzor

Marz and Yeghegnadzor Aarhus public environmental information center had organized presentation / discussion on the UN Universal Periodic Review, which was held on June 12 in Yeghegnadzor branch of the ASUE.

The meeting was attended by Yeghegnadzor and Ararat Aarhus Centers, “Fund against Violation of Law” NGO, Civic Centers of Vayq, Yeghegnadzor and Sisian and other stakeholders interested in the development of human rights mechanisms in Armenia. The meeting was a preparatory step for Armenia before the UN Universal Periodic Review process in 2015.

It was a wonderful opportunity not only to get acquainted with the recommendations given to Armenia by the member states of the UN, but also provided guidance for civil society representatives of Armenia on how to prepare reports and express their concerns and recommendations in direction of strengthening the protection of human rights in Armenia, making their voices heard in the UN.
