October 4 is World Animal Day. World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species.
In this regard conversation was held around the issue of stray dogs between M. Harutyunyan, expert at Goris Aarhus Centre and G. Bolyan, Deputy Mayor in the broadcast of “Barev” TV program. The problem is urgent both for Goris and other cities. There were discussed the further plans regarding stray dogs sterilization, isolation, adoption, and neutralization and sleeping versions.Goris_05_10_1

The opinions of Deputy Mayor of Goris and the Aarhus Center expert were opposing. M. Harutyunyan, based on the results of her own studies, mostly in favor of sterilization and adoption options. Although the sterilization is a costly process, but with time leads to the elimination of stray dogs, while killing dogs produces the adverse effect, contributing to the increase of the number of dogs and its aggressiveness.
Deputy Mayor G. Bolyan introduced that the stray dogs regarding issue is one of the aspects of the community head’s program. Have already begun the first steps of this operation; have been carried out in the version of killing dogs.
The latter also indicated that the budget is not enough to finance costly measures to fight against stray dogs, such as the sterilization option. The organization of measures and adoption program can promote reducing the number of stray dogs, but is not so readily available and accessible for such communities. The problem is exacerbated by the low level of information, lack of activities, why not also because of feeling fear to spread diseases.
Unfortunately, as long as bins located near the apartment buildings have no lids; stray dogs will creep over them…
