Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production: Dilijan

On August 12, 2014 a seminar within the frameworks of the demonstration component of the “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production” (RECP) Programme of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) was held in Dilijan Aarhus Center.
The “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production” demonstrative Programme is considered one of the three components of the “Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighbourhood” programme carried out in 6 countries of the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine), which main objective is to move towards the green

economy through distinguishing economic growth from the environmental degradation and resource consumption.

This project aims to improve targeted industrial sectors of the SMEs environmental processes and resource efficiency through investing concepts, methods, tools and policies of the “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production” (RECP) Programme in the above mentioned Eastern Partnership countries, thereby contributing to sustainable industrial development and increase of the level of employment and income, particularly in the field of agriculture, food, chemical industries and construction materials production.

The workshop’s opening speech was made by A. Simonyan, representative of the UNIDO Armenia and R. Harutyunyan, employee of the Ministry of Economy of the RA highlighting the project as a step towards the green economy.
During the seminar a speech was made by N. Harutyunyan, Focal Point of the RECP Armenia, Director of the REC Caucasus presenting the workshop objectives and the REC RECP demonstrative component program, as well as the experience in the sphere of clean production citing the example of the installation of solar dryers.

T. Oganezov, administrator of the RECP program presented the featured organizations the probable benefits expected by the RECP. D. Sahakyan and E. Ghukasyan, program’s national experts presented the featured companies visits made for the RECP assessment: the experience and initial results.

A. Haroyan, Dilijan Aarhus Center Coordinator presented the local experience of the city of Dilijan in terms of resource efficiency and cleaner production.

The seminar was attended by representatives of local government, state agencies, the media, NGOs, business sector representatives and active citizens, the latter actively participated in the discussions of all topics represented in the seminar.
