The Heated Situation is continuing in Karbi and Ohanavan
On March 14, a group of residents of Karbi, Ohanavan of Aragatsotn Province and several other nearby villages, were gathered again to voice their concerns and anxieties in connection with the construction of TPC on the fast flowing irrigation system in Ohanavan.
Remind that on March 6, the residents of these communities have applied to extreme measures by closing the Yerevan-Gyumri road demanding to cease the construction works.
In the residents opinion due to the construction of new hydro power plant in the region fruit gardens of 7 villages will face the danger of dehydration, as for the HPP operation large amounts of water will be drained. Currently the constructional works are ceased, but the villagers do not know if it will be continued or not.
It should be noted that Aparan Aarhus Center made inquiries on the HPP’s construction works to the appropriate government agencies aiming to receive official, detailed information questioning: “If “GAHA Energy” Ltd is planning to implement HPP construction works in the areas of the mentioned communities, if the company is granted a license, how is the HPP’s power and amount of the produced electricity, which are the water sources?”
A response has been received from the Public Services Regulatory Commission, which stated that the Commission had not granted any license to “GAHA Energy Ltd” for the construction or operation of a small hydropower plant.
