Eco-training about “Khor Virap” State Sanctuary

Yesterday Ararat Aarhus Centre has organized an eco-training in the main school of Poqr Vedi of Ararat province, which was attended by more than 40 students of the school’s 9th and 12th grades and the teaching staff.
Before the training the coordinator of Ararat Aarhus Centre spoke about the Center’s activities and the Aarhus Convention, presenting some pillars of the Convention.
They exchanged views to find out the environmental topics interesting the participants. The participants noted that they are more interested in the topics of waste management and air pollution. They expressed hope that this course will be continued.

At first the Centre coordinator presented two topics of the course and the environmental problems of Ararat region, and then focused the theme on the current state of “Khor Virap” State Sanctuary, situated nearby Poqr Vedi community and spoke about the natural wealth of the protected area, what benefits may get the community and the planned eco-tourism project of it.

The school administration informed the Aarhus Centre coordinator that the eco-training was taking place for the first time in their school and repeated the desire of students that the series of eco-courses would be permanent and the next course would not be late.

At the end, the Aarhus coordinator donated to the school the gift prepared by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF Armenia), among which were environmental maps, brochures and CDs dedicated to poaching and the Armenian flora.
