Making New Year’s Alternative Christmas Trees in Stapanavan

Stapanavan has a wonderful nature with coniferous forests, fresh water resources, mineral springs and consequently important prerequisites for tourism development. However, the outlook for tourism development will remain only a dream, because the forest situation is quite alarming.
Day by day the human factor more and more actively is expressed in forest areas reduction. Recently the dense forest of evergreen trees surrounding communities of Stepanavan region turned into glades.
According to the research results, the forest is mostly being damaged in the months of November and December on the eve of the Christmas, when for the holidays barbarically are being cut 15-20 years old
evergreen trees, which are thrown away in a few days.

Therefore, Stepanavan Aarhus Center has created a group of active youth, which started to fight against the tradition of cutting natural fir-trees for the New Year, offering Christmas trees alternative preparation methods. The young activists have recently prepared a variety of alternative Christmas trees in Stepanavan Aarhus Centre. Then Stepanavan Aarhus Center organized training courses for the students, professors of the agricultural college and schoolchildren. The training courses were accompanied by presentations, video watching and practical works.

Now the young people received training themselves are preparing alternative Christmas trees and teaching others.
