Dialogue on environmental issues. Gavar
On November 19 the regular meeting of a dialogue group on the ”Environmental issues” was held in Gavar State University within the frames of the program “Civic Dialogue and Action for Change”. Ms. Lianna Asoyan, the coordinator of Gavar Aarhus Center, was invited as an expert. The agenda was meant to reflect global environmental issues specific both in Armenia and Gavar region.
The low level of environmental awareness was discussed as a direct cause of many problems; on one hand, residents are contributing to the emergence of environmental problems, failing to implement their constitutional duties on environment protection and the improvement, on the other hand,
they are not consistent that the state and private sector do not violate their constitutional right to live in a healthy environment.
The group also conducted a practical exercise aimed at recognizing the environmental issues and finding common links. The participants were divided into groups, each picked up a problem related to rivers, deforestation and mining. Based on preliminary information the group of youths tried to raise this issue with all its consequences and influence and its affiliated impact on the environment and suggested solutions.
As a result, it was obvious that there are deeper processes in addition to the visible manifestation of the environmental problems that can occur without obvious consequences for decades, and one day lead to an ecological disaster.
