Idjevan young naturalists discovered important botanical areas in the vicinity

“Nature Rights Protection” NGO jointly with “Young Biologists Association” NGO conducted two-day educational event for young naturalists of Idjevan city. The venet took place on September 19-20, 2015 in Idjevan Aarhus Center.

On the first day Mrs. Vanuhi Hambardzumyan, member of Young Biologists Association” NGO presented the participants public campaign on “Biodiversity of the year 2015”, as well as the animal (trout), plant (pomegranate), mushroom (red death cup) and lichen (peltigeria streaked)of the year elected during the campaign.

Mrs. Anna Asatryan, guide of the RA NSA Institute of Botanyի, candidate of biological sciences, gave a lecture on Armenia’s plant diversity and important botanical areas. Illustrated print materials on Armenia’s vegetation were provided to the participants.

The next day a tour was organized to the remarkable trees of Armenia, Vardan oak, located in Aknaghbyur. Then a campaign was organized to Idjevan floristic region, one of the most remarkable varieties of rare habitat, “Dilijan” national park’s protected zone of yew trees. Mr. Robert Alikhanyan, leading specialist of the national park, accompanied us there.

The event was organized with the support of Rufford Foundation and within the frames of the program “Discovery Armenia’s most important botanical areas for conservation of plants and habitats”.
